I will try and keep this as short and concise as possible:
I have had IBS since my late teens/early 20's (I am 45, now). The daily symptoms/flares were pretty predictable and manageable from my teens up to around 41. I believe I was IBS-D (I only got the generalized IBS diagnosis when I was 21 or so). After 41 or 42, some things changed. I developed more food triggers and the gas, bloating, gut hypersensitivity, and tenesmus aspects became unbearable. I was able to fix most of that, but it's still not quite as predictable as I would like it to be (or like it was before my 40s) and I still have some daily concerns/worries.
My patterns now, are roughly:
1. Several daily bowel movements (anywhere from 4 - 8 times, all different sizes, consistencies, etc.). Majority are easy(ish) to pass, where a couple tend to require minor to moderate straining from time to time. I mostly do all of those between 5 am and 11 am, but as the day progresses, it becomes much harder to have a bowel movement, even if I have the urge/feeling. Most days, I cannot go after late morning or very early afternoon. Does anyone else have these issues, and if so, what did/do you do to fix this?
2. I have developed these weird irrational fears and expectations (from past occurrences/patterns), like:
- Waking up in the middle of the night with extreme gas/gut pain and not being able to relieve it with a bowel movement.
- Expecting to go to the bathroom after every meal.
- Not being able to go the next day.
- Not being able to go enough to feel 'comfortable' and evacuated the next day.
- Straining/straining pain with no result.
Does anyone else have any these issues, and if so, what did/do you do to fix this?
3. I also have weather sensitivities/barometric pressure changes that trigger symptoms (usually diarrhea or that colic-y, trapped gas/bloating pain). I was wondering if anyone knows any methods to safeguard against that to (mostly) avoid these issues, as they happen?
