When it comes to irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) trigger foods, we are all different. That is why so many healthcare providers recommend a food journal or diary. By tracking what you eat, when you eat, and how it makes you feel, you can start to pick up on patterns. These patterns might help you decide if some ingredients are worth the pain of an IBS flare.

IBS can involve a trial-and-error approach to meals. For example, while some people can stomach dairy or salads, others steer clear of them. Some can handle larger portion sizes than others. A food journal is a helpful tool that might paint a clearer picture for you and your doctor. With it, you can make a more tailored treatment plan.
