Weird IBS Symptoms

Have you ever experienced what you thought was a "weird" or "strange" symptom and wondered if others with IBS have experienced it too?

Share your "weird" symptom here and see if others have.

  1. Yes. I would get a rash on the inner aspect of my butt cheek a day BEFORE an IBS flare-up. The doc kept saying it’s from raw skin from IBS flare ups totally ignoring that it happens BEFORE a flare up. My neuropathy in my legs also get much worse. My doctors gaslight me when I report these symptoms

  2. I get extremely hungry every 4 hours, then I have to eat and when I do my IBS D flares up,it’s a never ending cycle and the GI doctor dismisses it. I finally asked my family doctor to refer me to someone else because for over 20 I’ve been seeing this man and not really getting the help I need. I also have breakouts of skin rashes mostly on my face when the bowels act up.This is so frustrating.

    1. My symptoms are similar. It does seem that we are on our own, there seems to be an acute deficit of knowledge both with health providers and sufferers alike regarding IBS. At least we have the internet today to share our experiences. The only thing that I feel somewhat confident about is (in my case) it seems to be related to the inability to absorb water from the colon. But I still do not understand what regulates the water absorption from the colon. And is it somehow part of the brain-intestine interaction that is getting more & more attention these days?

    2. It's interesting you mention water absorption. I have always wondered what it is that causes it. And why I go for some days where it seems to be no issue, whereas suddenly my gut will not want to absorb water properly again (my diet being healthy and having not eaten any trigger foods.)
I tried to research and study it, and can normally get a lot out of scientific articles, but for that subject, I could not completely understand it.

  3. I don’t think my symptom seems to be very common but when I get really anxious, I feel a bubble on my lower left abdomen. I’m having a particularly tough time right now and it really feels like there’s a lump in that area. It can’t felt on the outside of my body, it a sensation of having a lump. I hate IBS.

    1. I think that’s exactly what my sensation is! Trapped gas. Ugh!

    2. I get this at night sometimes and it is so painful that I thought I had an ulcer for like two months. Then found out it is just really bad trapped gas so now I Immediately take Tums and use a gas-x and then try to keep shifitng positions until it subsides. Sometimes it takes 5 mins and sometimes, ugh, it takes an hour. You are not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  4. Same here and they can't find anything

    1. read my post above.

    2. I wake up sick to stomach daily then a bile movement and feel ok. Lots of other things with this IBS
