My Constant Problems
I’ve had IBS for over 30 years. At first, it was constipation, but the past few years, it’s been mostly diarrhea with a few episodes of constipation. I’ve been seeing a GI just as long, and I think all he’s doing really is billing the insurance companies; he certainly hasn’t been much help.
Getting the run-around
My family doctor referred me to another GI, and he had some tests done that the other doctor never did, and I was thankful for that because those tests ruled out a lot of things, but he sent me back to the GI I had been seeing! He told me the other doctor had much more experience (who says that?!) than he did. I’ve learned what not to eat over the years, but sometimes it doesn’t matter what I eat; I’ll have flare-ups.
It's all so frustrating
I’m 73 years old, so there’s not a lot these doctors are going to do for me due to my age. I think sometimes the older you get, the less the medical profession really cares, and I’m speaking as a retired nurse. I pray that God will show the doctors how to treat us because this condition interferes with our daily living. I’m a widow and would like to date again, but I will not embarrass myself with the way my IBS D acts up with loud stomach noises, abdominal cramping, loss of energy, and frequent gas. Who wants your date to hear all that? You all just keep trying different things and much prayer, you’re not alone.
