To start with, it’s great to see a space like this for people with IBS to come together and find support/resources.
I focused on IBS and other DGBIs in my training, and in my own clinical practice. Having seen the negative impact on quality of life, I made it part of my mission as a physician to do what I can to address the needs of a patient population that is quite often led to believe what they’re experiencing isn’t real and/or told there is nothing to help them.
This is of course unequivocally false.
38% of patients suffering from bad IBS have contemplated suicide.
I am working hard for my own patients to address their needs by offering the highest level integrated care I can. We have licensed therapists who are trained brain-gut specialists and registered dietitians that help with diet and lifestyle elements
The only way to adequately treat IBS - or any other health issue for that matter - is the identify root causes first.
Pills will never solve their problem.
Please let me know if anyone has any avenues for me to be involved in to raise awareness, advocacy, etc.
IBS and the other 30+ disorders of gut brain interaction affect 40% of the world population. That’s over 100 million people in the United States. Despite this massive number, as well as decades of research showing how to adequately treat people suffering from these condition, access to appropriate care is lacking.
I’ve been working on changing that in my own practice and nationally.
Please reach out to me as this mission is important to me. I’ve seen what good care can do for a person and how dramatically a life can be changed when we provide high-level care.
