IBS and Nutrafol hair growth supplement

I am wondering if anyone has had any trouble or bad reactions/flares to using Nutrafol supplements for hair growth. Before I came down with severe IBS symptoms (approximately 5 years ago), I had been using Nutrafol for hair growth with no apparent issues. And the supplement (though pricey) WAS creating new hair growth, so I was very happy to use it.
But, now with IBS (or IBS-like symptoms), I am now very wary of some of the ingredients listed in the supplement. Due to severe malnutrition from my near-death experience of being unable to eat due to IBS symptoms, my already thin hair has become even finer and thinner and grows at a very slow pace. I do NOT want to lose my hair! But I don't want to upset the improvements in my digestion that I have been working so hard to maintain.
I am seeing an IBS specialist (who specializes in malnutrition) in November, so I will probably just bite the bullet and ask her to review the ingredients list (which is long) and ask her opinion about my resuming taking the supplement. My initial consultation with her led her to think that I may not actually have typical IBS, but perhaps a bowel function disorder which, in her words, would possibly be somewhat easier to treat and perhaps even be reversible.
I would love anyone's opinion or experience with taking Nutrafol. Thank you!

  1. Goodness, that sounds incredibly frustrating. I can say from my personal experience, I did try Nutrafol for a while (I have really thin and often brittle hair), and I noticed, for myself, an increase in acid reflux issues. It came on rather quickly for me, so I stopped before noticing anything else. I honestly wasn't taking it that long - maybe a few months so I didn't even notice a change in hair growth unfortunately.

I'm not sure that it had anything to do with my acid reflux as this was about 2ish years ago, and I still have acid reflux, totally could be from other things, of course, but I did notice the onset was relatively close to when I started taking it.

I really hope you get some answers when you speak to your doctor. Man, is it so much to ask for some strong, healthy, and thick hair without feeling sick?! Thinking of you, Kayleigh, Team Member ❤️

    1. Thank you, Kayleigh, for your thoughtful response. I am so desperate to try to regain my hair growth, that I am sorely tempted to resume taking it before I meet with the doctor (I have 2 1/2 bottles in store). But... she's a well-respected doctor, and I feel I should probably let her weigh in on whether or not she feels it's safe for me to resume taking it. I have gone through too much to get to where I am in my recovery to want to risk it. Late November isn't such a long time to wait before I can see her and ask her about it. Thanks so much for weighing in with your experience. I wish you all the best in your recovery/symptom management journey!
