I have had IBS for 60 years. Most years have been IBS-C. I've tried a dozen or so remedies, OTC, prescription meds, dietary changes, FODMAP, etc. No cures and no marked changes. Frankly, often cures seemed to veer into diarrhea. I realize how very individual IBS is, but am passing on the most marked improvement I have had this year. I added 2 Brazil nuts to my diet. That's it--the only change in a diet that has remained incredibly consistent for a few years. I take no supplements and have not changed any medication. Brazil nuts are a great source of selenium, and that's actually the reason I added them to my somewhat meager diet. An overdose of them is said to cause diarrhea. But somehow, for me, 2 a day is the magic key. I know how IBS makes us desperate for cures at times. I know this one may not be what works for you. But I would feel guilty if I didn't at least offer it up because it has been so helpful to me. Best wishes to all of us on this journey.
