IBS and Halloween

With Halloween approaching, the themes of the invisible, the unpredictable, and the body acting against the mind are everywhere. It's funny how many classic spooky characters feel like metaphors for living with IBS.

Does The Invisible Man/Woman capture the frustration of an unseen illness and the symptoms that no one else can truly understand?

Does a sudden, explosive Werewolf perfectly embody a flare-up or an unexpected, overwhelming urge?

Does Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde reflect the sudden, unpredictable shifts between constipation and diarrhea?

Tell us: Which Halloween character (or monster, ghost, or ghoul!) do you find yourself relating to the most right now, and why? Share the specific IBS symptom that character captures for you.

  1. Pennywise think I'm having a great day and no diahreaha then all of sudden rumbling of the stomach and starting to feel like getting weak and lightheaded . And I know that clown is on its way to ruin my day . To drag me down emotionally and physically

    1. Chronic illness can be both physically and mentally draining! I can attest to that after living with it for over 40 years myself. Some days I am just like, sorry, have to nap for a bit, can't stay upright! Mentally, though, I need to recharge with games or something at least a few times a week or it gets bad! As said, it is like Jekyll and Hyde, you never know what you are going to wake up to and it can turn on a dime! You are both not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

  2. That guy in "The Shining" who suddenly whacks an axe through a door.
You think...the door is just there. It's just a door. Doors just do their own thing and are pretty peaceful...until an axe chops a huge hole in it.
My tummy can feel like that door just before the huge shock that makes us all jump.
I ate safe food, I have no stress, I enjoyed my dinner and the evening....all was well...just about to go to bed....then wham!
