Coping with pain related to stress

Hello!
A few years ago I had intense bowel pain but nothing was found in a CT scan. No one mentioned IBS. I was also going through a very stressful situation. Then - for 2 1/2 years, I had no pain. Then, a close friend of mine became ill and the day I took him to the ER, my pain came back - the exact same day. Turns out my friend has cancer and my pain seems here to stay. I even went to the ER where they prescribed buscopan and a laxative. Seems very stress related.

What I find strange is that the pain and bloating seems worse after a BM. For example, the other day I woke up with no pain, went about 3 hours with no pain, had a BM and felt pain and bloating after.

For sure it's stress related. Any suggestions? Has anyone had the pain after a BM?

Thanks for listening.

  1. Hmm that's a tough one. From what you're describing it could very well be stress-related. I'd highly recommend going to a doctor again to rule things out and hopefully figure out what's going on. I wish you the best! We're always here for you and supporting you. 1. Thank you, Michaela,
I ended up contacting my family doctor and we had a phone consult. He was very supportive and encouraging and recommended Metamucil on a daily basis to keep things regular. He also recommended gasX. He thinks it's stress related and sounds like IBS. He said if I don't feel better in 2 weeks, we will meet in person for more of an exam.

It's odd that it started when I took my friend to the ER with - guess what - bowel pain. He hadn't been feeling well for weeks and talked a lot about his pain. It seemed to trigger me.

I started meditating and trying to remain calm.

Thank you for your kind response.
