Antibiotics and ibs

Hi all. I recently completed a course of antibiotics and am having several bouts of urgent diahorrea. I don't know whether this is due to a flare up of IBS, the antibiotics or a combination of both. Any advice please would be greatly appreciated.TIA

  1. Antibiotics really mess up the microbiome. They don't just kill the bad germs, they also kill the friendly gut bacteria. Maybe taking a good probiotic like Symprove or Alflorex (or some other one) might help you? You could give it a try.

    1. Hi hateibs, thank you for your reply. I used to take biokult for a time but now I find actimel suits me better. Yes I have read that antibiotics kill friendly as well as bad but bacteria , just having a badctime at the moment. Once again thanks for taking the time to read and reply to my query.x

      1. Yes unfortunately, antibiotics can't tell the difference between good and bad bacteria so they just wipe them both out. That's why it's a good idea to take probiotics when you are on antibiotics. They replenish the good bacteria. -Elizabeth (team member)

    2. I'm no doctor but whenever I am put on antibiotics I always take probiotics to replenish the good bacteria that is being killed off. -Elizabeth (team member)

      1. Thank you Elizabeth. As stated earlier I am taking actimel which at the moment I am able to tolerate.xx

        1. Great to hear! Big hugs, Elizabeth (team member)
