Why is there abdominal pain after bowel movements?

I've been a sufferer with IBS for five years. Despite attempts by Gastro docs who basically prescribe the same ineffective pills and scans, my abdominal pain after morning movements (usually four due to Linzesse Rx), always causes pains ranging from an 8 to 9 on the ' pain scale'..These can last from 20 minutes after a movement to hours. Would also appreciate any comments on Linzesse as well..Thank you.

  1. Hi , I'm so sorry you're dealing with this terrible pain after bowel movements. Have you mentioned this to your doctor?
In this article about Linzess: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications/linzess-reviews-how-well-it-works-and-side-effects, abdominal pain is described as a common side effect, so I'm wondering if your pain might be caused by the medication?
We also have many forums about Linzess, including this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/linzess-for-ibs-c where some community members mention that it causes bloating for them.
We also had this discussion about pain that appears after a bowel movement: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/pain-and-ibs, I think you might relate to some of the comments.
    I hope this helps.

    1. Thank you for your reply. However, checking the links you mentioned, the posts do not really help with my situation. I have been on 145 Linzess for two years..I've seen four Gastro docs, and other than the usual pro forma Duluxiatine prescriptions, CT scans, endodoscopies, and colonoscopies..Docs have been zero help. This has been a five years, daily pains trip which appears not to have a resolution...Thank you again.

      1. That sounds super frustrating that despite all the tests and doctor visits, you still can't find an answer. As exhausting and hopeless as it may seem, I hope you continue to advocate for yourself until you find a solution. Have you found any home remedies that have helped ease the pain in the meantime? Thanks so much for being here. - Kat (Team Member)

    2. The past few years (5) have resulted in a same patter;:
I usually go to bed at 9:30PM - Up by 5:00AM ..I awake around 3:00AM during the night and take the Linzess 145's. knowing that in 3 1/2 hours, (yes, it's remarkably precise!). the first of 4 bathroom trips will commence ! Hence, the pain begins, continues for some hours, then dissipates by early afternoon...
So, thank you again for reaching out.
As for home remedies, other than a straight razor or noose (Just Kidding Folks!!), no remedies. Pain is a daily, integral part of my life...As you know, there is no magic bullet for IBS. In a larger sense, I've capitulated to that fact.
      Regards - Gary G.

      1. That sounds so hard, I'm so sorry. You don't deserve to be in so much pain all the time. 🙁
I suppose the tests didn't show anything conclusive?

Have you ever tried stopping the Linzess to see if that would change anything about the pain, or do you think that it's unrelated since the pain began before you started taking it?
