Linzess for IBS-C

I have been taking Linzess for two years. It is the only way I can go every day. It has been a godsend for me. It has been working for me as far as being able to go, but it does not relieve the bloating and gas like it says it will. I'm interested in hearing other people's experiences with Linzess. I know it is very expensive and so far there is no generic form.

  1. Thanks for commenting and reaching out. I hope others here share their personal experiences with you. Be sure to also reach out to your doctor about any new, changing or concerning symptoms, if you haven't already. In addition to speaking with your doctor this article may be helpful: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications/linzess-reviews-how-well-it-works-and-side-effects Wishing you some answers and relief ahead. 1. I have been using Linzess for about 18 months or so. Early on I hated it due to the bloating. I was on a higher dose then, so I am not 100% sure if that was the reason the bloating was so bad (I had a lot of other issues at the time). I gradually reduced to one 72 mcg/day. I take it the minute I wake up, and I don't eat for 30-60 minutes. I have tried taking it later in the day and/or closer to food, and all that did was cause horrific bloating.

For relief there is only so much you can do, and everybody's system reacts differently. I take the lowest does of Linzess in the morning. At bedtime I take Motegrity, Milk of Magnesia (most nights) and drink senna tea. To relieve bloating I use GasX chewables, yoga poses, and heat. If you don't already have one, I recommend the bags of rice that you can heat in the microwave. Supposedly peppermint helps (supplement or tea), but it never did much for me. Here is a video I used to use, too: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvAx7q2LKqk

      1. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm sure these tips will be very helpful for others suffering from the same symptoms. Hugs, Karina (team member)

    2. Thank you bookloverdeb for your different suggestions. I have tried the peppermint tea as well as yogurt, etc. They haven't done anything for me. I take 290 mcgs of Linzess in the morning and wait to eat for 60 minutes. It works its magic most of the time after an hour. The bloating and gas is better some days than other no matter what I try or what I eat so I guess what works for one doesn't always work for another. I take Miralax at night along with a magnesium supplement pill. I also drink a lot of water throughout the day.

      1. Some things can take a bit of time to really feel the effects of. I personally have found that mixing less than a capful of apple cider vinegar in with a cup of water 20 minutes before I eat breakfast has helped me a lot. It prepares the stomach acids to be able to digest foods, especially after not eating for several hours. I hope this helps you out! Best wishes, Michaela (irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member)

    3. I wish that medication worked for me. I’ve had IBS-C for 16 years and that med never helped me go, the only reason I go maybe 2 times a week is Motegrity.. and even that doesn’t do squat … so I’m jealous lol

      1. I'm sorry that it doesn't work for you. I suppose in 16 years you must have tried lots of different ways to manage your IBS. Do adjustments in your diet do anything at all? Sending hugs, Karina (team member)
