IBS-C how to handle constipation

How do you handle IBS-C? I take Miralax day and night and try to eat enough fiber but it seems no matter what I eat I have constipation. Has anyone tried Linzess and if so does it work?

  1. I tried linzess a few years ago and it caused severe diarrhea episodes for me. (The product mentions this on the label). I then tried 1/2 the dosage to no avail. After that I ceased using it.

    1. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work for you. Have you found another remedy or medication that works better?

  2. I'm so sorry you're dealing with constant constipation.
Regarding Linzess, we have this forum with lost of comments from different community members: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/linzess-prescription, as well as this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/linzess-for-ibs-c. I hope this helps.
I assume you have already tried all the foods recommended for constipation, but I wanted to share these two articles: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/food/constipation-food-tips, https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/food/meals-constipation, just in case there's something in there you might not have tested yet.

    1. I had a very rough summer dealing with motility issues. Tried Linzess and it made me very nauseous. I failed a sitzmark test. I took a pill that had 20 markers to test if and how many passed. After 3 days the xray showed I had only passed 4 and they congregated at 2spots in my colon. I was being treated by a doctor that left the practice and I couldn’t get an appointment for 5 months! I’m just stuck! It’s really awful trying to see any doctor! I hope this has some insight for you. Best of luck. 💕

      1. I'm sorry you are going through that with the doctors but I have experienced the same ever since COVID. All my doctors who usually had like a month lead time at most now have 3-6 month lead times and if you have to reschedule then good luck. The healthcare system was pushed to the breaking point it seems and now it is very slow to recover. Who can plan their medical needs 6 months in advance? We are not psychic! Just know you are not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM

      2. I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time. Were you able to get an appointment since your last update?
Some community members have had success with naturopathic doctors as well, if that's something you might be interested in. I'm going to share 2 articles here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/naturopath-experience, https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/good-doctor-please. If you're still struggling to get an appointment, maybe it might be worth considering an alternative approach in the meantime?

    2. I have tried laxido. I usually have to take 3 or 4 sachets for it to work. The trouble is it builds up then nausea sets in when I can't stop going. You'd think I'd feel better but it is what it is, irritated bowel. The best thing which seems to work for me although not always is keeping hydrated. Water being the best.

      1. Nausea is one of my most dreaded side effects. I remember when I was going through chemo I said I need two different nausea medications because I can deal with the rest but just not nausea. Fortunately it wasn't too bad, but I get it. It stinks! At least you are able to keep it at bay somewhat by making sure you are hydrated. Keep on keepin' on, DPM
