Pebble-like stools - Any suggestions?

Hi,
I have randomly started getting pebble-like stoools, which are a sign of constipation. They go back to normal for like one day then come back.

Is there anything I can do to tackle this? I take fibrogel (bulk forming laxative) and will take lactulose too, as these stools are hard to pass.

This is so frustrating, I noticed I got these after eating Salmon, which is healthy and you would not think would cause this problem!

  1. Hi , I'm sorry you're experiencing this new symptom. Personally, I would stop eating salmon for a little while if it was causing symptoms for me. In my experience, I can often tolerate a food again after cutting it out for a while, but when I keep eating something that's bothering me, the reaction tends to get worse over time. But of course you need to do what feels right for you.
Here a couple of ways you could try to relieve constipation:

    1) Massage: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/self-massage-for-constipation, 2) Diet: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/food/meals-constipation, 3) Foods to relieve constipation: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/food/constipation-food-tips and https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/prunes-dates-constipation, 4) Prebiotics and probiotics: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/food/prebiotics-probiotics-constipation, 5) Supplements: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/vitamins-constipation, 6) Fiber and laxatives: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/treatment/fiber-laxatives. I hope this helps and you'll be feeling better soon.

        1. Since this is usually a sign of constipation, you could maybe try some of the methods I linked above if you haven't already? Does this happen during flares for you? Karina (team member)
