Fall Beverages

Hi Everyone,
It is starting to get cold here, and this fall I would love a warm beverage. I can not have tea that gives me horrible migraines even decaffeinated tea. All Herbal teas taste horrible and really play with my IBS-D. Coffee and my IBS-D do not work. There is Swiss Miss Hot coco I can have, but I can only have a little during the day. If I drink it at night I get very sick. I do not drink alcohol as it gives me migraines and IBS-D issues. I am not a huge fan of hot water and lemon. I am sometimes drink hot water with honey. Any other suggestions?

  1. Have you ever tried bone broth as a warm beverage? I personally find it very soothing for my IBS. We have a recipe here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/ibs-friendly-bone-marrow-broth, if you’re interested.
I’m also going to share a couple of other recipe ideas below:
IBS-friendly matcha latte: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/matcha-latte, Pumkin spice smoothie: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/pumpkin-spice-smoothie, Dairy-Free Minty Hot Chocolate: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/dairy-free-minty-hot-chocolate, Turmeric latte: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/turmeric-latte, and Lemon & Ginger Tea: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/recipes/lemon-ginger-tea. I hope some of these might work for you.
Please let me know what you think!

    1. Hi,
Do you have any with out any type of milk? Or substitutes for milk, and by milk I mean coconut milk, soy and almond milk. I can't have they flare me even small amounts. My doctors were testing and I got to 1/4 of a teaspoon before it was flared.

    2. Oh no, I'm sorry to hear that! Was it an allergy test you had at the doctor's?
Without milk or milk substitutes, that would leave the Bone Broth and the Lemon & Ginger Tea...
A personal favorite of mine is Christmas-y type teas. I always drink Throat Coat Tea because I love the taste so much, there's also a Chocolate tea from the brand Yogi Tea. I'm not sure if these types of teas were included in the herbal teas you don't like though...

  2. Lemon ginger tea is a fave of mine when I want a tummy-soother that tastes great. Many different brands make them, including Twinings and Stash, both of which I've tried and liked. It's a good balance between the two flavors, not overly lemony or gingery. I hope you will update us on what you've tried 😀 Kim, moderator

    1. I miss having my pumpkin spice flavored coffee and muffins. It made Fall so enjoyable. Since Almond milk sits better I may try it.

I have coffee every morning and doesnt seem to affect my IBS-D luckily.

I do have dairy sensitivities based on a test I did.

      Have you tried Peppermint tea?

      1. Try Postum, the coffee substitute Grandpa liked! It's made from wheat and molasses, no caffeine, and comes in three flavors..
