What symptoms do you suffer with?

Hello everyone would just like to see what symptoms you have when you are having a flare up and if you suffer any symptoms when under stress

  1. Great question, thanks so much for pitching it here! It's a big topic that has been written about in several articles here.

My IBS-C never goes into remission. I am eternally constipated. After I start eating, I feel bloated, meaning I feel pressure and fullness. I also have abdominal distention, meaning my tummy makes me look like I'm 5 months pregnant. This is caused by trapped gas, so if I'm lucky enough to pass wind at some point, bloat and distention will diminish.

To treat my IBS-C, I have to use meds to get things moving. Laxatives of all sorts, but now on Linzess. They all cause symptoms too, such as multiple bouts of explosive diarrhea, loud wet farts (yuck), loud growling, and of course, the dreaded gurgle, which is a clue that I will have diarrhea. I did have IBS-D for a year, and IBS-M after that. So I medicated with anti-diarrheals. Then it changed to IBS-C, so I had to change my treatment regimen.

I am lucky not to have pain, like so many others do. I'm also fortunate that I can eat whatever I want. An elimination diet changed nothing, low FODMAP diet did not improve things. No matter what I eat, the symptoms are the same.

I hope lots more people share their symptoms. We are not alone with our misery! It helps to compare notes and see that we're not responsible for this insanity. In solidarity, Kim, moderator

    1. Hi, I have had right side pain for st least 10 years. No other symptoms. I’ve had ultrasounds, CT scans, blood work and all good. Doctors thought stress and gas due to existing a lot of summer fruit. Last year I retired and my daughters family lived with me for 4 months. Stress level elevated and pain became more prevalent and almost every day. Like a side stitch always on Right side. No other symptoms. More tests all good. This summer the pain has been more consistent and I have developed gas and bloating nothing else. I’m now cutting out gluten to see if that has any effect . I also started new probiotics which could account for the grassiness and pain. Not officially been diagnosed with IBS. Can stress really cause this much agony. I don’t take any medication and a heating pad seems to sooth the pain,

      1. You're not alone. We have many forums about right-side pain, such as here:
        https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/upper-right-abdomen-pain
        https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/right-side-pain
        https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/tender-pain-in-right-side

It's good that you've done all the tests for that!
Stress and anxiety can cause all sorts of strange symptoms. It could also be related to or worsened by a food you're sensitive to.
How are you doing without the gluten so far? You could also try cutting out other common triggers such as dairy, caffeine, and fatty foods, or keeping a food diary to see if you can spot any correlations between your diet and pain levels.
As for the new probiotics, that's a possibility for sure! Not all probiotics will work for everyone, and I've also experienced increased symptoms (especially bloating) from probiotics before.
        Please keep us updated!

    2. from what everyone is saying i think stress can cause that much agony like you said your pain got worse when you was under stress I'm trying to learn more about the gut brain connection have you heard of it? and yes the probiotics could possibly be causing the bloating and gas but that might settle down once your gut gets use to them and im the same I don't take medication for my stomach I just use a hot water bottle

      1. Hi647, thx for your response. Yes Ive heard of brain/gut connection and vagus nerve. I am a constant worrier and I’m hard to relax. I’m hoping that is all it is. Anxiety makes it worse thinking I have some other issues.
