The only carbonated drink I ever want or have is sparkling mineral water. I have never found that it upsets me at all. But, I do have to be careful which one I can have. They all vary as to their mineral content, Some have higher levels of bicarbonate, magnesium etc. I found that the ones with very high bicarbonate or very high magnesium don't suit me. But some have lower levels and those are fine.
So it doesn't seem to be the sparkles, but differing levels of minerals that I have to be a bit careful of.
There is one, called Aqua Pura which is my favourite and is perfect for me..
I can have magnesium in foods with no problem but if I drink water high in magnesium it doesn't suit me.
But magnesium glycinate as a supplement is OK.
