Hi. I am 40. I've had IBS since I was 15. The main problem and the reason I went to the doctor when I was 15 is because my IBS suddenly started and the only real symptom was leaking mucus.
I went for tests at the time and saw a consultant who told me it was just IBS and there was nothing they could do about it.
It has made my life hell. I wear pads everyday and have to change them frequently. It affects every part of my life. I used to be into playing football, hockey, running events etc. I had to stop all of that because the leaky mucus, although it happens all the time, is much much worse when I exercise or if I'm somewhere hot.
They're the two things that really make it a lot worse. I had to stop playing team sports and isolated myself as much as possible.
I have read lots of people complaining of mucus in their faeces but I've never seen anyone else that has leaky mucus everyday.
It's not diarrhea, my stools have always been normal.
Does anyone else suffer with this?? What can I do to make my life better? I have been doing FODMAP for a couple of years. I have seen minor improvements but if I exercise or have sex ( any exertion) it starts.
Any advice gratefully received.
