IBS Flare or something worse?

Hello everyone!I'm diagnosed with Ibs,when i was 20,now I'm 37 years old.I also have diagnosed with fibromyalgia,1 year ago and struggling with depression over 10 years. The last 20 days I'm living a nightmare, pain all over my abdominal area, lower back.I had 3 colonoscopy in my life, the last 2 year ago which came out clean, like the other. The pain comes and goes, some times severe, cramping. The strange thing is that,I can sleep at night.Im freaking out, because painkillers doesn't help me anymore, same meds like buscopan, librax.Maybe my body get used to them,I don't know.Im reading every day symptoms in Google, and I'm in panic and fear, that I have colon cancer.Should I get another colonoscopy?I don't know what to do anymore,to send away that pain.

  1. I am so sorry you're living with pain again. Have you reached out to your rheumatologist? They might be able to determine whether your pain is fibro-related and causing your IBS to flare. Besides buscopan and librax, depression/anxiety meds such as SSRIs are often prescribed for pain management as well. These would include Paxil, Prozac, Celexa, and Zoloft.

You had a colonoscopy rather recently. You might contact the doctor who orders those for you and discuss your recent situation, and invite their thoughts on what might be going on.

I hope you can find some answers and relief very soon! Thinking of you, Kim, moderator

    1. I'm on Prozac already for depression and Xanax, for anxiety.I contacted the doctor which,i had 3 coloscopy before. He said not to panic,to calm down."It's not something malignant, get it out of your head".But the pain sometimes is so severe, that i forget his words. My pathologist said the same,it's too soon to have a new colonoscopy...2 years and without even a polyp,or something else suspicious.I will go to do some basic blood tests, plus iron, ferritin and CRP.
Thank you very much for your reply.

    2. I'm so sorry you're dealing with all this. You're not alone. We've had other forums where community members shared about their health anxiety and how it impacts them, such as this one: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/fear-of-bowel-cancer-is-making-me-not-want-to-be-here-anymore. It's a terrible thing to deal with, I can relate so much. 🙁
Maybe you could talk to your doctor about trying different anxiety medications that might help with the pain as well?
