Ibs constipation

Hello! All

I am so frustrated I was diagnosed with IBS that I am not able to eat anything.
I get pain with most of the food, I only eat lettuce, fish shrimp, and chicken.

I get constipated very easily with other food and veggies.

I stop eating red meat and veggies for about 6 months.

My doctor told me to introduce one at the time, but I already tried some of the veggies and I still get sick.

Any advice?

  1. When I am flaring I can't have veggies unless they are steamed or cooked. The fibre is just too much to handle and it triggers symptoms. Are you introducing the veggies cooked or raw? -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. So sorry you're dealing with this. For me personally, re-introducing foods takes a while. It almost feels like my digestive system needs to get used to foods again until I can properly digest them. In my case, what helps is introducing very small quantities at first, and only on days where I feel fine otherwise. I also find root veggies to be easiest on my stomach, but I have IBS-D so it might be different. All the best, Karina (team member)

      1. As some other members here have put it: Re-introducing takes
a lot of time and isn't smooth-sailing bc. sadly the human body
is rather "lazy" in that regard and stops producing enzymes to break
down these foods after a while (which is also one of the reason people
get sick from foods in other "exotic" countries they have never been
to more easily). Your body is just not used to any of your regular foods
        anymore.
I also recommend steamed root vegetables. In particulare: carrots and
parsnips. The former is rich in antioxidant A and the latter has a lot of
        vitamin c.

        1. Thank You so much for your advice, I was frustrated because I could not eat most of my favorite foods.

          1. Well if you really have IBS (please check with a doctor, IBS is regarded as the "diagnosis" for the people who can't really be diagnosed), you'll have to get used to that. The Low Fodmap Diet eliminates/cuts back on lots of "favorite foods".

          2. I feel your frustration. For several years, I survived on white rice and chicken or red meat... Now, I can eat almost everything in small amounts on good days (as long as I stay far away from gluten and other major triggers), which I didn't think would ever be possible. Please don't lose hope!
