Does anything over the counter help?

I've heard Imodium can help some with IBS but does anyone know of something that is truly reliable in curbing IBS symptoms?

  1. We all react differently to medication, but many people find Imodium to be effective indeed. I personally don't, unfortunately.
I'm going to link an overview of different medications used for IBS here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications, as well as specific treatments for diarrhea: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications. I hope this helps.
Have you tried adjusting your diet to help with symptoms? In my experience, that was very helpful, and also working on stress and anxiety if that's something you deal with, since those can trigger IBS as well.

  2. yes, Immodium helps but not for everyone. It was my miracle pill everytime I had pains and diarreah. It stopped everything. But it constipated me for 2 days which I didnt mind to be honest.
My Proctologist prescribed Hyoscyamine and I found miracle pill #2. No more Immodium for me past 4 mths. Its Hyoscyamine as needed. It slows things down perfectly for me.

Hope you find what works for you

    1. https://www.drugs.com/mtm/hyoscyamine.html Hyo is available by script only and it has many potential side fx. Immodium is the only OTC remedy that is effective against diarrhea for me and it acts very quickly. I try to avoid it as it's supposedly hard on the heart but diarrhea is intolerable so in view of regular workouts heart must take his lumps.

    2. Correct. Prescription only. Everything has side effects. Its all about trial and error. So far so good with the Hyoscyamine for me. No side effects at all and its just as needed which lately its once a week or so.

Immodium probably safer but we all just have to try something and find our balance. Im wishing comfort for us all.

  3. I use Imodium Multi Symptom Relief.
It not only helps diarrhea but it also relieves gas, bloating and stomach pain. It works well for me, but everyone is different. Good luck!

    1. I'm glad it works so well for you, that must be a relief during flares. I hope you're having a symptom-free day today, Karina (team member)

  4. I also use Imodium Multi Symptom Relief pretty much every day. I wait for one poop to come out and once it's out, I take the Imodium. This seems to be the ticket for me. It used to constipate me but not anymore.

    1. I'm glad to hear that you've found an effective way to manage flares! Thanks so much for sharing what helps you. All the best, Karina (team member)
