Psyllium in IBS-C

Hello all! I am new here. Currently 43 years old and have been struggling with IBS-C since my 20s. I recently had amazing success with Motegrity, until my insurance stopped covering it. Last week I decided to retry Psyllium as a last option. I took 1 teaspoonful in 8 ounces of water once per day for 3 days and then did not have a bowel movement for 6 days. It took massive amounts of laxatives to get things moving again. My question is, has anyone else had trouble tolerating the psyllium but been able to get to a place where they could tolerate it?

  1. Hi and welcome to our community! I'm sorry that you've been struggling with IBS-C for so long and that your insurance stopped covering your medication. While I can't speak from personal experience (I have IBS-D), I'm going to link a couple of articles and forums that talk about IBS-C treatments:

As for the psyllium specifically, I hope that other community members will share their experiences with you!
Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)
