Low FODMAP diet advice

Hi all,

I'm a 20 Y/O female trying out the FODMAP diet for gastro issues including IBS.
I'm following rough guidance, but in these first initial days, I'm feeling super weak, anxious and tired. I used to eat a lot more refined sugars and carbs and I'm wondering if it's just my body getting used to the diet?
I also have Bipolar II, BPD, PCOS and Endometriosis. The diet is roughly along the lines of the PCOS diets so it helps both ways.
Having been on the diet for such a small amount of time I already feel less bloated and have had less stomach pain!
I want to carry it on but feel so ugh.

Was wondering what other peoples experiences of the initial low FODMAP diet were?

  1. I'm glad that the Low FODMAP diet seems to be working. If you're feeling weak and tired on the diet though, maybe you're not getting enough nutrients?

I would definitely ask your doctor about this and make sure that you don't have any deficiencies if you haven't already.

As for the diet itself, I personally just adapted the usual meals I already ate to be Low FODMAP. I always eat lots of carbs (have to for my IBS-D) but I just replaced High FODMAP grains with Low FODMAP options like white rice, potatoes, or gluten-free pasta. I also didn't cut back on sugar - as far as I can see some types of sugar are considered to be safe for IBS, so you might not need to eliminate sugary foods altogether.

I don't think the Low FODMAP diet is supposed to make you feel bad, so I would try to adapt it in a way that gives you more energy. You could also try working with a specialized nutritionist to make sure that your body gets all the nutrients it needs.
