IBS or Ulcer?

Hi all,
I'm having some trouble ascertaining whether I have IBS (suddenly after no issues with stomach for 38 years!) or possibly a stomach ulcer.
I've started getting extreme gnawing pain in my upper stomach, that lasts about 30 minutes, which leaves me crying and screaming in pain, then it goes away as though it never happened.
I have no issues with bowel movements or consistency, all of that is fine however I am burping a lot and have a metallic taste in my mouth and I've noticed I wake up with heartburn most mornings.
Would these be symptoms experienced at the beginning of IBS?
Many thanks in advance.

  1. I'm sorry that you're dealing with these symptoms and pain. While we can't diagnose you, the sudden pain with no changes in bowel movements doesn't necessarily sound like IBS to me, although of course, IBS can manifest in many different ways.
Have you gotten any tests done to rule out other causes? If not, I'd definitely suggest seeing your doctor and asking for blood work, stool tests, and maybe scans to figure out what's causing this pain. Maybe it's some sort of infection?
    Please keep us updated!

    1. Thanks Karina. Appointment this Friday, negative home h pylori test and whilst i don't like to Google all symptoms lean towards an ulcer but hopefully there's some more test to be done. All the best.

      1. I hope you'll have more clarity after your appointment on Friday. Will you let us know what the doctor says?
Sending positive thoughts, Karina (team member)
