IBS has been in flair for 2 years. Doctors won’t help. Also: dry mouth

I’m so exhausted, so excuse me for a rant.

Firstly, I have had a pain down the right of my abdomen, starting from the bottom of my ribs right down to above my pubic bone for 2 years now. I’ve had prostate checks, liver and gallbladder scans, I’ve had a camera inside to check my bowel, I almost had my appendix removed one time… then about 3-4 weeks ago I was diagnosed with IBS.

I’m not convinced, to be honest.

I started taking 3 x Mebeverine a day. It has given me awful dry mouth and hasn’t made a blind bit of difference with my symptoms.

If I stop taking them, how soon is my dry mouth going to go away? Will it come back if I then take them again?

Does this sound like IBS to anyone?

  1. Hi , I'm so sorry that you've been dealing with these symptoms for 2 years with no relief. If the IBS diagnosis doesn't feel right to you, I would continue to push doctors to help you. How many different doctors have you seen so far? Have you had a capsule endoscopy done?

We've had other community members describe similar symptoms like here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/upper-right-abdomen-pain, or here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums/ibs-pain-right-hand-side. If you don't have any other symptoms and the pain is constant instead of coming in "flares", it wouldn't be typical for IBS, although it's not impossible. Do you have any other symptoms along with the pain, like bloating?
As for the Mebeverine, if it doesn't help at all and just creates negative side effects, I'd probably stop taking it. Hopefully, other community members will chime in soon to share their experiences with dry mouth and how quickly it disappears after starting the medication.
