I was diagnosed but I feel like things are not adding up

To make a long story short, I’ve had issues with severe stomach pains and diarrhea for just about a year now, maybe longer. It’s gotten to the point that I sometimes have to really rush to make it to the bathroom and often it takes hours and several trips until I feel okay. These days I don’t even feel comfortable leaving the house most of the time.

The issues come and go but I rarely have a week off without them.

I had blood tests, stool samples, there is no indication for IBD, no pylori, no celiac disease, no histamine intolerance, I’m not lactose intolerant or fructose intolerant and even sonographic imaging and even an MRI showed nothing.

My doctor pretty much told me sucks for you, you can try Fodmap but it probably won’t help, or take loperamide when I have issues. The diet is not possible for me and loperamide doesn’t work.

I also don’t think it has anything to do with food since I sometimes had to get up at night to use the toilet because of the urge and pain and sometimes it’s the first thing I’m confronted with in the morning right after getting out of bed.

I do take medications that might make the issue worse, but I’ve had these symptoms long before I started taking them.

I’m not too sure what I even want to ask here, I’m just getting desperate for just any answer that might help me get better since I really can’t go on like this anymore.

Maybe some of you can share your experiences.

  1. So sorry you are going through all of this. It is so frustrating when you have test after test and nothing comes back with any answers as to why you are feeling unwell. Wondering if your doctor would consider doing a colonoscopy? It could be that the MRI isn't showing something? Another thought, is maybe seeing a Naturopathic Doctor? It could be that they could offer another perspective as to why you are feeling unwell? Here's an article on this topic that you might find interesting: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/naturopath-experience I hope you feel better soon. Kindly, Elizabeth (team member)

    1. Hello Elizabeth, thanks for the quick reply. My gastroenterologist and primary care physician unfortunately both think that due to my test results a colonoscopy would be unnecessary stress and that it most likely wouldn’t show anything except that it really isn’t anything physical.
As for naturopathy, I live in Germany and those kinds of treatments are almost always considered private and not included in what my healthcare will pay for. And as you can probably already guess, I would not be able to afford that. But I will still check out the link and try to get in contact with a Naturopathic doctor to see what my options are.

Thank you again for your quick reply.
