How to start FODMAP

I have been unofficially diagnosed with IBS. Local doctors really don’t specialize in it and don’t offer much help. I just get told it’s all in my head. My biggest struggle is gas and urgency to go. Which is creating a big problem with work. I can’t sit in on meetings because the fear of what if takes over. The post about “gurgling” really hit home with me. I thought I was the only one! How has everyone started a FODMAP diet? Is there an app anyone could recommend? What’s has helped?

  1. Welcome to our community. I hope that we can be a source of helpful info and support as you navigate this. Have you thought about seeing a Registered Dietitian to discuss diet specifics with you? If you are having urgency and diarrhea, you may find relief with eating more soluble fiber. Soluble fiber helps absorb fluid to relieve diarrhea, it forms a viscous gel that slows down digestion rate. The Monash University FODMAP Diet app for your smartphone, is one that our contibutors shared that may be helpful.
