Has anyone ever developed burning mouth syndrome with IBS-C

I’ve spent years with IBS-C. I developed a sever burning month that the doctors can’t figure out. I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them. My gasteroligist doesn’t believe it is caused by my IBS.. Thankyou

  1. Can you elaborate more on what you mean by "severe burning month?" Hugs, Elizabeth (team member)

    1. , I just started getting it a month of go. Thought I was going crazy. I’m afraid to tell my doctor

    2. I feel you, it can be really hard to talk about symptoms like that. Whenever I go see a doctor about anything related to IBS I always feel like I'll get dismissed, but I believe it's still important to mention new symptoms to them. Do you have a good doctor who listens to you? Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)

  2. Before I was diagnosed with IBS I’ve been dealing with burning from my throat to the roof, gums and tongue. I’ve gone to the ENT many times and all they tell me is until I find out what’s causing it there’s nothing they can do. I also have Barrett’s which was just diagnosed a year ago but negative for it on last endoscopy. I’ve been using lidocaine that helps a little bit but if used to much it burns more. Thank you for asking. Any kind of help is much appreciated. Dotty

    1. This sounds so awful. I am sorry you are going through this. Oh, I wish I had some answers or tips to offer but I haven't been through this. Frustrating that doctors don't have an answer for you. Do you get acid reflux?

I just googled "what caused burning mouth" and this is what came up: Allergies or reactions to foods, food flavorings, other food additives, fragrances, dyes or dental-work substances. Reflux of stomach acid (gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD) that enters your mouth from your stomach. Certain medications, particularly high blood pressure medications.

Maybe you can correlate something here?

  3. Elizabeth Alvarez Dotty T T. First time I've posted, so hope I get it right. I've had IBS since I was in my 50's. Now in my 80's, and still have it. Got BMS (Burning Mouth Syndrome) in my 60's, which was in late 1990. They knew very little about it then, and thought it was related to dental work or grinding and clenching teeth. A Neurologist prescribed meds, and eventually it went. away. Unfortunately, it has recently returned, and seems much worse than I remembered it from so long ago. Impossible to chew most foods, so I'm relying on soups, potatoes, eggs, etc. Also I'm having a bad bout with IBS, and my Gastro doc thinks it might be C-diff! So today I have to do the dreaded stool samples! So hard to do now that I'm so old. Anyway, thought I would let people know that IBS and BMS, never really go away. They always return eventually. I wish I knew why?

    1. what is C-diff

    2. We have an article about it here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/ibs-c-diff. I hope that helps! Karina (team member)

  4. I have the same thing and went to a variety of different specialists. My dermatologist finally diagnosed it as lichen planus, yet another autoimmune disease with no cure. She did prescribe a gel to use on my lips and another in my mouth. They help with pain and burning if you use them every day but,of course, won't cure it. Good luck!

    1. Oh no, I'm so sorry. I'm glad that the gel helps with the pain at least. Thanks so much for sharing! Sending hugs, Karina (team member)

    2. There was a 2year study using capsicum it has helped me with burning mouth I use 4 drops of tabsco in a half cup water rinse mouth 4 times a day.
