dizziness

Hi, when I get awful stomach cramps and the overwhelming feeling I need to get to the toilet I often feel faint when I do get there and have passed out on the toilet before- this tends to happen when I am having a diarrhoea flare up. Just recently I am feeling dizzy all the time on a regular basis, I’ll be going about my day and suddenly I feel faint the stomach pains etc then kick in a period of time after. Has anyone else suffered with being constantly dizzy 🙁

  1. I've passed out on the toilet before, mines constipation so if I push too hard I get all light headed... Not fun

    1. I'm doing OK at the moment, I had a BM at the weekend so I'm feeling good today

    2. That's great! Were you able to take advantage of that and enjoy your weekend?
Wishing you a flare-free week, Karina (team member)

  2. I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. 🙁 You're not the only one! We actually have two somewhat similar forum topics that I'm going to share with you, hopefully you'll find some helpful answers in there!

Also, have you talked to a doctor about your symptoms? I would definitely suggest that if you haven't already!

    1. If that is happening with diarrhea rather than straining (which could over stimulate the vagus nerve) then I wonder if it could be related to either/or low blood sugar or dehydration? Whenever I have a D flare up I can tell right away on waking up in the morning because my mouth is as dry as parchment. Water not absorbed in the gut. And with it, presumably some electrolytes...
Low blood glucose could happen if you're generally feeling awful in the tummy and have no appetite.

But it may be more that that, and I agree you should talk to the doctor about it.

      1. Yes ! I know what you mean. I can be walking perfectly fine and then fall to the side and hit the wall. Usually I feel movement in my gut and then I am fine again. I asked my gastroenterologist about it and she said that the vagal nerve is most likely stimulated when a certain part of my colon contracts. She specifically mentioned all of these symptoms:

        Dizziness or light-headedness
        Blurred or tunnel vision
        Sweating
        Turning pale
        Nausea
        Fainting
        Feeling warm
        Skin feels cold and clammy
        Ringing in the ears

When I am going through a flareup, my colon contracts anywhere it wants. I am unable to walk because of dizziness if the colon contracts in that area. Unfortunately it is not just a simple contraction to move waste. It contracts and stays that way for hours. I can feel the tightness on the transverse part of my colon and all I can do is just wait it out. Eventually I am able to get up but I have to hold on to objects to get around. I am woozy and not sure of my balance. In time I recover and worry about when the next spell might happen. That's one of the worst parts. I am fearful of leaving the house in case it should happen then. I wouldn't be able to drive and wouldn't know what to do outside of my house. I am wondering if that particular part of my colon could be removed or cut from the vagal nerve if that is even an option. Good luck. IBS is a terrible condition that takes over your life just when you thought you were the one in charge.

        1. Thank you for sharing this. I'm sure many will be able to relate and find solace that they aren't alone. How have you been managing lately? So sorry you are going through this. -Elizabeth (team member)
