Deep Fissures

Sorry if this is already a discussion, I tried looking for it first.

I have experienced light tearing before, even before I had IBS. What I didn't know about were deep fissures. My mom has Crohn's but this never came up.

Apparently, a couple of months ago, the inside of my buttcrack became very dry & after a particular rough bowel movement, a deep fissure formed. I didn't know this was a thing so when I stood up to flush, I was met with a toilet full of blood. The next couple of times I went pee, there was blood. I didn't panic because it was fresh blood but I still called my docs office to make an appointment.

This is where I found out that my butt's too dry & I had a deep fissure. Honestly, I had to look that up when I got home.

So now I use baby wipes to help...moisten things to a proper level. I still get a deep fissure from time to time. Sometimes cause of sitting on the squatty potty in a way that causes too much tension down there.

Anyone else suffer with deep fissures?

  1. Apologies for the delayed reply. You are certainly not alone in this. Glad you were able to speak with your doctor and find ways to help minimize that dryness. This article talks about fissures and hemorrhoids: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/open-letter-friends-family. Wishing you continued relief and early identification should it happen again.
