Suggestions for back pain, bloating?

Hi all. I have IBS C and have been having bad flare ups recently (after months of nothing). I think stress is the cause but it’s hard to manage.

My main issues are back pain and severe bloating and trapped wind. I stretch and do yoga when it’s bad but nothing seems to help atm. I’m always in pain and fed up of being told my the dr to try and ease my stress and keep a good diary. Any tips or advice would really help. Thank you.

  1. To be honest I've found not a lot helps with flare ups, bar medication, an anti spasmodic, and pain killers. Although I would say I've done a keto diet for 18 months, I've had my first flare up on an all inclusive holiday eating junk.

I think that Suger, alcohol and some fruits and pulses kick it off, trying a keto diet removed my back pain immediately after 2 days, IBS symptoms entirely gone and energy loads better. I still have flare ups if I eat Suger or larger, but otherwise I'm ok.

    1. also naproxen (but can only use for a week max) and mebevrin or buscapan help. Keto was a winner, fruit can set it off I found. Fructose (Suger in fruit) really can affect it, I've been doing keto for 18 months to two years, and it's even built up my tolerance to what would usually trigger symptoms. This is the first flare up I've had, partly due to what I've been eating and not being on keto.

I would watch people on YouTube, mikala Peterson does an extreme version of this, carb dodger is helpful and keto cycle was useful app for me. A mix of diet and prayer has virtually got me symptom free.

On my journey I've discovered that suger can really affect it, also there is an app for IBS by the nhs that is food map or something like that, that can help find triggers like pulses , fermented foods etc , but keto is great for loads of auto immune disorders

    2. That's so great that you're doing so much better on the Keto diet, thank you so much for sharing! Karina (team member)

  2. sorry to hear about your IBS-C symptoms and stress. I have recently started hypnotherapy and relaxation/mindfulness sessions with a therapist for my anxiety and IBS. I have had one session so far and I realised it’s benefits. I’m ready to go back every week.

    1. That sounds good! I really hope it carries on helping you. I start counselling again next month. I’m a trainee counsellor myself so I know how beneficial it can be.

    2. I have been getting Similar Flare ups for Years , I recently discovered I am allergic to Citric Acid not the Version you Find in Fresh Fruit the Man Made version that is in alot of Food we Consume , Bloating Flatulence Joint Pain Head aches and feel Fit for nothing ,Worth a try checking what you are eating , If it says Citric Acid it has almost certainly not come from any fruit ..They Use black mold to produce it .

      1. I've seen your forum about this, thanks again for sharing this! How long did it take for your symptoms to improve once you cut out the citric acid additive? Karina (team member)
