struggling lately. any idea why?

hello! i’m new here and i would like to share my experience with you to see what’s going on with me lately.

so, i was diagnosed with IBS years ago. i struggle with IBS-D mostly but do get IBS-C now and then. i have noticed that during the night (usually after 7/8 pm) my body starts to tremble. i feel it more inside but it’s kinda visible on the outside too. when my body shakes, i always have to go to the toilet. my stools are soft and i do get diarrhea too. the fatigue comes as well and i have abdomen cramps too and it feels better after i let the gas out. my arms, legs, mouth and chest trembles.

i have noticed that my right thigh feels numb sometimes and heavy. sometimes it’s like something is pulling it. about my abdomen, the pain is usually on the right side and i feel like it’s getting warm.

i started having the first trembling in january, then a couple of times in february and i have it every day in march. i’m not sure what’s happening to me so could anyone tell me if they had similar experiences?

i tried talking to the doctor but he wasn’t able to help much. he just said to try and stop eating things that might hurt me. i’ve tried not to go eat gluten and lactose for days but it didn’t get any better.

what type of things can help with these? what should i do?

thank you!

  1. I have had similar to you, but not as clearly connected with IBS as yours (yes, I know ....hard to understand what I mean)
I got strange symptoms including exhaustion and a peculiar shakiness/trembly sensation among other things starting March 2018. The doctor ran a blood and urine test and checked me out basically and couldn't find anything wrong.
4 weeks later I got loose stools which lasted only a week or so.
Then no more IBS symptoms until spring 2020.
But in all the time between, I did get those strange shaky feelings and also a feeling like ice cold water at the top of my left thigh usually after getting up in the morning and before using the toilet (my stools were quite normal during this)
My mouth and tongue trembled, my eye had twitches, and my body felt as if I had been holding it in a stress position for too long, like I was shaking from a deep sheer exhaustion.
I related that to exhaustion as the only time I'd felt that before in my life was once many years ago when I and a friend went to the mountains and I did way too much climbing in one day. I got that throughout my whole body then.
At the time they happened I wasn't actually getting IBS symptoms in those 2 years.
But looking back over the whole 4 years I know all the symptoms are connected somehow.

They happen a lot less nowadays, those sensations. But I couldn't understand what they were. Nothing I did, ate, no rest or exercise, warm or cold water or anything stopped them happening.

But in bad flares I do get very shaky. However that feels different.

I wish I could pass on to you something that helped me. But mine just eased up on its own really. I still sometimes get little "flickers" of it but they're almost nothing now. No idea what it was.

    1. I have the same thing.

      1. I have had similar issues, however it took me months to realize they tended to be anxiety related. The uncontrollable shaking was from anxiety. The weird twitches and pains and pangs in weird places just happen sometimes, it may be related or it may be your body trying to tell you something: you're stressed out! Because you have IBS, it's nearly a guarantee that you'll have some anxiety and anxiety makes IBS flare up, vicious cycle! Do what you can to notice what is stressing you out, and try to mitigate it from your life or at least bring attention to it so you know WHY it's happening. It won't stop it, but once you realize what it is and that it's insane and uncomfortable but isn't going to hurt you, it tends to lessen in severity and frequency.
On a side note, I did the most aggressive food elimination diet out there, and found it to be one of the most helpful things I ever did. I found quite a few foods that triggered not only my IBS, but also my anxiety! It will take a TON of will power and self control, but it is worth doing to find the things to make your life easier.

        1. So sorry you are going through this. I haven't experienced trembling like this before. I do get chills and I can tremble from being cold but it goes away once I warm up. I'm really sorry your doctor is not taking this seriously. Are you able to see another doctor so you can get a medical professional who takes your plight seriously? It is so important to advocate for yourself. If you feel something is wrong then usually something is wrong. So if your doctor isn't taking this seriously, I would highly suggest finding another. It's important you get to the bottom of this. Maybe it can be neurological? Just thinking out loud. I hope you get relief soon. Hugs, Elizabeth (team member)
