Starting to give up

hello all, i'm 35 years old my english is not perfect and since i remember i allways had really bad stomach pain. One day in the hospital they told me i had IBS, but honestly, no docters care, sometimes i have to call the ambulance because the pain is so bad, they give me some IV and thats it, right now i've been in pain for months, i allways feel full so its really hard to eat, im starting to eat less and less, always with a headache and i was diagnosed with depression (of course, who can live like this?). i'm starting to give up honestly, everyday is pain, i take a gastric protector in the morning, it helps a litle bit, less burning sensation but still burns, already did colonoscopies, they found nothing. So i'm here to ask if someone found something that helps, please let me know

  1. I'm so sorry you are going through this. If nothing showed in the colonoscopy. Perhaps there is something going on in the small intestine. I would ask for a Pill Cam test. You swallow a small camera that is inside a pill. It takes images of your entire digestive system from mouth to anus. -Elizabeth (team member)

    1. I'm so sorry that you're in so much pain, that must be terrible to live with. I agree with what Elizabeth said, please don't stop advocating for yourself and trying to find the cause of this pain! We also have this article collection about pain and pain management: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/chronic-pain. I hope you'll get some answers soon. All the best, Karina (team member)

      1. I am sorry you are in pain all the time. That must be horrible for you. If you get burning feelings, and are taking a gastric protector, then it seems like the problem is high up, somewhere in the stomach maybe? Is it GERD? (Gastro Esophageal Reflux)?
I wonder if they will find out if you have gastritis or something if they were to do an endoscopy?
You see, a colonoscopy will only be able to examine the colon.

If the burning is in the actual stomach area, what might help you a little bit is to raise the head of your bed (maybe on breeze blocks or piles of books) so you don't sleep completely flat in the bed. That can often help acid backing up into the esophagus while you sleep, and will help heartburn.

Can you ask your doctor about whether it might be GERD or gastritis?

People with IBS can often get that. I had a short period of it in winter 2020 -2021. I took Manuka honey, some herbal bitters, made sure I ate a bland diet, and raised the head of my bed for a few weeks. It disappeared, hasn't happened since, and I hope it doesn't come back.

You can also ask your doctor to be tested for Helicobacter Pylori which is a stomach infection.
