Recent diagnosis

I was recently diagnosed with IBS and I am so overwhelmed with all the info out there about diets. I don't specifically know what food triggers the bloating/ gas/ stomach pain so I really don't know where to start...
Any advice would be appreciated

  1. It can certainly be overwhelming. I would suggest keeping a food journal. That's what I did to figure out what was causing symptoms. Basically just write down everything you eat with the date and time. And also write down whenever you have symptoms with the date and time. You will soon see a correlation and be able to start eliminating food triggers from your diet. -Elizabeth (team member)

  2. Thanks for reaching out and welcome to our community. I hope that we can be a source of community and helpful info as you navigate this new diagnosis. As you mention not yet knowing what food is triggering symptoms, have you tried keeping a brief symptom/food journal? This can often be helpful in making correlations. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article on keeping a journal may be helpful: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/coping-and-diet/ibs-symptom-food-diary.

You are right that there is a lot of info out there on diets around IBS. There is no one-size-fits-all diet that works for everyone unfortunately. There is going to be some trial and error involved. That said, this is a great and relatively concise rundown of IBS and nutrition: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/diet-management. Please reach out with your specific questions as they come up, we're here to support you in this. Wishing you some answers and relief ahead. Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member
