Pain for days after IBS -D

Hello, I’ve had IBS for a while now & get different types of flare ups but the worst type is the one I’m having at the moment. I will eat something that upsets my stomach and have classic symptoms straight after - pain, urgently needing the toilet. But then for the next couple of days my stomach is so sensitive. I have no energy, everything I eat hurts, my stomach is bloated and gassy, I feel sick and my mood is really low. I have a very active job which makes it worse and jumping around just hurts, I also have to make sure I’m putting enough food in me otherwise this just makes it worse as well. Everytime I’ve googled I can’t find anything about the days after a flare up. Is this normal? I find it harder to deal with than the needing the toilet / pain bit! Any advice on how to limit these symptoms would be appreciated 😊

  1. You're not alone with this! It always takes me a couple of days at least to get over a flare, longer if it was a really bad one. I'm not sure why exactly this happens, but it feels like there's a lot of inflammation in my gut after a flare and it needs a while to get better. Personally, I only eat very safe foods until I feel normal(ish) again, like white rice and chicken, bananas, steamed carrots. I'm not sure if this could help you as well? Herbal teas help me as well, especially camomile and lemon balm after flares.
I imagine that being active must be so hard during these days. 🙁 Could you maybe compensate by resting more at home? Karina (team member)
