Is it SIBO?

Hi, new here. I am almost 67, and have had digestive issues and IBS off and on for many years. I had a very stressful job and a sick mother, and I had been taking Pepsid AC for a while, for heartburn and reflux, and really, never got much help. Then, one day, I tried one of my Mom's Omeprazole pills, and oh, blessed relief! To be brief, I have been a slave to them off and on, since. I quit, then I am forced back on, and I truly believe they are the reason I developed IBS C, in the first place. Anyway, I've been doing better, at least for a while, with the bowel issues, then boom, in the past week or so, I started getting cramping, and very loose stools, although I never seemed to be able to go all at once, and it seems to love to hit me at night, getting me up and down out of bed, and disrupting my sleep. Anyway, I have heard the symptoms of SIBO, and it fits me a lot. I sent for several things, one of which is Iberogast, which seems to be helping. Also, I am taking activated charcoal for 10 days, to hopefully draw out my bad bugs. And lastly, I am tinkering with diet, eating less carbs, grains, and processed food, and sugar, which is very hard, as I have a sweet tooth. Anyone tried Iberogast? Thoughts?

  1. Just wanted to share with you one of our other articles on SIBO: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/getting-tested-for-sibo It is one of our community members talking about SIBO and how they decided to get tested for it and the ensuing result and plan. I also know that even with my own chronic illness journey that stress can be a great trigger, and I am saying that as also a caretaker of an aging parent myself. It might be worth telling your doctor that you are taking the Omeprazole and that it gives you relief and seeing what they say. They might know about a side effect that could also explain your symptoms and will possibly help you test for SIBO. Either way I think it is time to involve the experts, so to speak. Let us know if there's anything we can do to help in the meantime. Keep on keepin' on, DPM
