IBS solution for me

I've have had IBS for many years and for the longest time I could not find a solution to all the pain and misery, until one day I decided to stop eating everything. I started eating only protein which consisted with eggs, meat, chicken and fish. I slowly started adding different foods to see what I could tolerate. That helped me so much and changed my life for the better. No medication helped me. I still have a day or 2 that I have a flare up but that's because I ate something I knew I shouldn't be.
I recently met a endocrinologist that was a friend of my niece snd she referred these 2 supplements
that made an incredible change, taking a Multi-Enzyme formula after every meal which helps wirh digestion and a prebiotic and probiotic at bedtime. This changed my life and I can say this has helped incredibly.

  1. Nice to hear you found something that is working. Starving seems to be the common fix for us all but obviously not something we should do long term.

My Naturapathy doctor led me to finding 2 big things the doctors werent telling me about.

    SIBO test (Positive)
Food allergy test (allergic to dairy)

    1. Thought scrambled eggs would of been ok this morning... guess not. 🙁

      1. Yeah, sometimes it doesnt affect me. So odd. I make them at home so I know not to put anything on it. Just a little black pepper. Nonsalt, no cheese, no hot pepper, ect. Have it with a little toast. I miss my egg & cheese so bad

      2. Eggs are mostly okay for me, but they also aren't the safest food so I avoid them when I'm in a flare. Maybe it's something they put in the eggs in restaurants also? Like some form of dairy, the oil the cook with, a spice...?

    2. That’s amazing, I’m so glad that you finally found a way to improve your symptoms! Thank you so much for sharing what has worked for you.
What kinds of foods were you able to add back into your diet, and which ones do you have to avoid?

      1. Not sure yet. This is all new to me so I am just beginning but will post here as I find what works and doesn’t for me. I definitely appreciate this forum and hope to be able to share anything helpful that may help someone else. I have been a big foodie all my life. Not only food but presentation. So…. Rather than think my life is over😂 I laugh because it really is going to be a challenge.

      2. Those beginning stages are so hard! I remember thinking my life was over when I was first diagnosed, but it does get better. As for food, have you tried keeping a food diary (https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/food-journal-download) yet? You can do that in addition to the Low FODMAP diet or any other diet you're trying, as we're all different and diets don't tend to work 100%. I also wanted to share this article: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/how-long-do-fodmaps-take, it talks about how long it can take for foods to trigger symptoms. It's important to know that sometimes, the symptoms you're getting are related to something you ate 2 meals ago, which can make it harder to figure out triggers. I had a phase where I only ate 3 safe foods because I thought everything else was a trigger, when in reality, I was just reacting to gluten which I had almost every morning...
It's totally possible to make nice food while avoiding triggers, although it is a challenge!

    3. What sets my condition off is coffee in the morning.
I eat rice, pasta without any sauce I just add butter and parmigiana cheese. I also eat eggs cooked well with either bacon or ham. I love salad but no tomatoes. I will have a sandwich for lunch sometimes with no veggies.
Every now and then I try something else

      1. You can eat regular bread?

      2. While we wait for to reply, I just wanted to say that gluten can be a trigger for many people, but many also don't react to it at all (same caffeine, dairy, fatty foods, artificial sugars, ... which are all common triggers).
