IBS flareup

When I get ibs flareup I get LLQ pain. Feels like I don’t completely empty my bowels. Plus my stool is very thin. Does anybody else have these symptoms?

  1. Hi , pain is definitely a common symptom of IBS, as are incomplete bowel movements. I'm going to link an article about it here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/symptoms/tenesmus. Have you had all the tests done to rule out other conditions? Do your symptoms change at all depending on what you eat?

    1. Thank you for your response. I’ve had every test in the book. From Ct scans blood test stool test colonoscopy’s etc. I’ve this condition since I was 5. But again the lower left quad pain is the one that always bothers me the most.

      1. I'm sorry that you've been dealing with it for so long. I suppose you've also tried all the diets and medications? Have you ever found something that helps with the pain at all?

    2. The things that trigger my ibs is infact stress and certain foods. I’ve been given Bentyl but hasn’t taken it. It has too many side effects. When I get my flare ups I mostly work with a hot water bottle and warm baths. They help but not entirely take the LLQ pain away.

      1. Stress is such a big trigger for me too, so I feel you. 🙁 And its very understandable that you don't feel like risking the side effects of Bentyl. Have you ever tried more natural remedies like probiotics, herbs, or even alternative approaches like hypnotherapy? We have an article about various options here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/alternative-complementary-treatment. I personally find hypnotherapy and certain herbal remedies to be quite effective, but of course that really depends on the person.

    3. Yes I’ve tried teas like ginger, peppermint and chamomile.

      1. Did the teas help at all? For me personally, taking bitter herbs before meals helps with bloating and discomfort. I use yarrow and also a herbal blend tincture I found online. Yarrow is supposed to have antispasmodic properties, so maybe that could help with the pain? It tastes really bad though.
