IBS-Brain Connection

I have noticed when I start to wake up for the day that I have no cramping. It is only when I wake up and start my morning activities that the cramping starts. IBS could be tolerable if I could sleep for 24/7!

  1. I used to have the same thing! I would wake up feeling fine and get a flare about an hour after that, except on week-ends where I didn't have anywhere to be. The brain-gut connection is real. Have you found a routine that helps you deal with these symptoms in the morning? We have a couple of articles about that actually, like these two: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/morning-anxiety and https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/why-ibs-symptoms-worse-morning. 1. Thank you for the links Karina! I haven't discovered a routine that will work more than one day. It is frustrating when you can't control what your body is doing!

      1. I feel that, it's so frustrating. For me, getting up two or three hours before needing to leave the house helped a lot, this way I could wait out the flare at home. And then I tried to do something relaxing in the morning to keep the stress at bay. Also, things like hypnotherapy help me stay calm when I'm experiencing symptoms (otherwise I used to spiral and the stress about the flare would make the flare itself so much worse). We're all different, so I don't know if any of this will be helpful to you... Sending hugs, Karina (team member)
