I thought I was going to lose my baby

I'm 6 months pregnant, but I suffer with IBS and often have flare-ups that just come out of the blue for no reason, usually at night time.
Last night in bed I had pains in my tummy that were so bad I thought something was wrong with the baby and I panicked.
The pain lasted almost an hour - until I broke wind and that was when the pain eased. After breaking wind a few more times the pain completely went and I felt happy again because it turned out it was just trapped wind and not the baby.

It's tough having IBS when pregnant because you can't always tell if tummy pains are just IBS or something to do with the baby.

  1. I can relate to that experience SO much. I was pregnant twice and both times I had flares like that, and I almost went to the hospital the first couple of times because I thought that something was wrong with my baby. I think that it doesn't help that your organs are being squished during pregnancy. I wrote about my experience here if you're interested: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/morning-sickness-flares.
Have your IBS symptoms changed during your pregnancy at all? How have you been feeling in general? Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)
