I need help…

I don’t have ibs-d or ibs-c or gastroparisis, I don’t have diarrhea or constipation. I don’t have pain, only severe irritation, bloating, spasms and cramping. Think of a migraine in your gut, or the moment right before you have diarrhea/vomit or have food poisoning. Maybe inflamitory bowel disease?? I’ve had flair ups ever 6 years and they typically last 5-6 months. This flair up has gone on for at least 6 months now. I’ve lost almost 70lbs (I was 250). Between flair ups I have zero issues if I don’t eat trigger foods. I haven’t eaten any trigger foods in the last 6 months.
I have normal BM’s. What I have is something different. I’ve been to countless GI “specialists” and in the last 20+ years, have never gotten an answer to my debilitating condition. All my tests are normal. My stomach empties quicker than normal. But Here is the best way I can describe it.
(Imagine having food poisoning and how your guts feel at the moment right before you vomit and the debilitating cramping in your lower bowels right before you BM, now add in being in a roller coaster after eating the biggest steak you’ve ever eaten. Going over that fist big hill. Your heart is racing, you feel like you’re going to explode, vomit and diarrhea all at once. Sprinkle in heart palpitations from being so bloated” that’s about it. I try explaining this to GI doctors and they just say “hmm, you need a endo and colonoscopy” well I’ve had them, over and over. Nothing other than inflation and diverticulosis.
I don’t know what to do anymore. All I eat anymore is baby food, cottage cheese, egg once and a while and veggie juice (from scratch).
I’ve lost my job, I barely get any house or yard work done. I’m just existing at this point. Does anyone have conditions like this?

  1. Thank you for taking the time to share and reach out. You have certainly been through a lot and sounds like it's still very much unresolved. Have you sought out a GI specialist recently? What about a GI specialty Registered Dietitian? You are not alone here. I hope others chime in and share their experiences with you. You may also consider posting on our forums page (https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/forums) to reach more people. Here's a story posted on our site that sounds similar to yours: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/stories/difficulty-getting-diagnosis.

Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD) is a term that includes Crohn’s disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). Typically they can be diagnosed through endoscopy and colonoscopy, https://inflammatoryboweldisease.net/diagnosis.

Do you tolerate fiber foods? There isn't much fiber in the foods you've listed. Fiber can help slow down emptying of the stomach. I'd encourage you to be persistent in seeking help from your doctor or seeking another opinion. In addition to speaking with your doctor or a Registered Dietitian, these articles may be helpful to you: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/can-nausea-be-a-symptom-of-ibs and https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/diet-management.

That's a lot of info so please reach out with additional questions. I hope that you feel supported here as you navigate this and work toward an accurate diagnosis and relief. Sending positive thoughts your way. Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team Member
