Hypnosis

Hi, has anyone here tried the self hypnosis tapes on youtube for IBS and anxiety, ? There is many to watch but I tried one and was to anxious to let myself relax for fear if they are any good or not , are the safe ?

  1. Hi , I haven't tried the tapes on YouTube but I have tried hypnotherapy using Nerva and found it to be very helpful for the anxiety I have around IBS. It really helped me not to freak out about every little symptom. I hope other community members will be able to share their experiences with the YouTube tapes with you. Karina (team member)

    1. I do a 20 minute session on YouTube every day when I have flare up. I search for "20 minute mediation for pain". I'm also bi-polar and I have tried lots of different types available. I sometimes do two if it's a bad day. I end up drifting off so somewhere and get 100% pain relief! Thoroughly recommend.

      1. Thanks I'm just getting over a 2 week flare up. Until the next time!

      2. That's tough, I'm glad you're starting to feel better. I hope you'll have some symptom-free weeks ahead of you. Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)

    2. As far as I know, hypnosis especially with a trusted hypnotherapist or when you initiate it re: a self-help recording or guided meditation etc, is completely safe.
You see, it's not like those old fashioned stage shows where someone crawls around the stage on all fours, barking like a dog or something similar, and then when they are brought out of the hypnosis, they have no recollection of what happened! I honestly think some of those shows were set up for dramatic effect!

You are always conscious and aware and capable of making your own decisions. Your brain waves alter and you are in a more receptive and relaxed state but I don't think there is anything to worry about.

However, to completely set your mind at rest, if you have a certain faith, it would be helpful maybe to say a prayer for help, healing and guidance before hypnosis.

My main problem is when I am feeling unwell, I cannot focus or concentrate and get horribly restless and cannot find the right mind-set. So when I most need them, those hypnosis recordings and videos are inaccessible for me!

      1. I did the hypnosis session with a practitioner, but with someone who was newly qualified. However, their specific field of interest was concerning past lives rather than using hypnosis for medical purposes.

Did you find Nerva helpful for your IBS? I have heard some good reports of it but haven't tried it yet. I can imagine it would be very helpful if stress was the main IBS trigger. I live a fairly stress-free life generally, but have noticed my tolerance for stress is greatly reduced recently. Even if I have to drive somewhere I've never been before I have an exaggerated stress response. A real "fight or flight" reaction!

      2. Nerva did help me, mostly in the sense that it helped me stay calm when I'm experiencing symptoms. And I also found that it helped with the brain-gut communication, like when I felt like I had to use the bathroom right now but I didn't actually... it helped a lot with these 'false signals'. I would have to do it again though, because the effects taper off after a few months. For me, it's not as much about dealing with external stress but rather my own reaction to even the tiniest little things that shouldn't be stressful at all. I feel you on driving, it always stresses me out so much to drive somewhere I've never been before. Or basically anywhere that's more than 5 minutes away. I used to imagine everything that could go wrong, but now I try to tell myself "but what if everything goes well" and focus on that. Karina (team member)

    3. Thank you, my anxiety makes me over think things ,

      1. I feel you. Like said, I think you stay in complete control, especially with tapes or recordings. With the hypnotherapy sessions I did, it was more about feeling relaxed than actually hypnotized. Have you tried any of them yet? Karina (team member)

      2. There is nothing wrong with over thinking a thing like that. Our minds are very precious and it's good to ask questions before doing anything.
