Help - my probiotic capsules give me acid reflux :-/

Hey 😀
Trying some spore-based probiotics that are considered to be very safe in the treatment of IBS-related symptoms (subtilis+coagulans). Sadly from the very first time I took these new capsules, I've been getting acid reflux/GERD. I have most likely narrowed the culprit to the Maltrodextrin which is the main component in those capsules (and I read it up, that stuff should be illegal). Problem is: The package says 2 capsules per day with meals (with capsule or opened in water).

Has anyone here experience with Maltrodextrin or has made a similar experience?

Is there a way to make it easier for my stomach to consume the maltrodextrin? So far I've taken the capsule 20 min before the food/ the powder alone in water with food (and even not taken the whole amount) but so far my results are not that good.
Ideas?

  1. Alflorex probiotic doesn't appear to contain Maltodextrin, but does contain some corn starch. I have heard that Alflorex has been helpful for some people with IBS.
Maybe the thing is, you have to find a probiotic without Maltodextrin. But it's hard to identify other ingredients that may cause problems without experimenting, and that's a very hit and miss way isn't it, with possible effects each time?

    1. Not sure how I can help here. I don't have experience with maltodextrin. But from what you have mentioned you say you take it 20min before food. I would try taking it with food? -Elizabeth (team member)
