Have IBS C, need gallbladder removal

With my IBSC I have to take daily laxative and fiber to get some relief and yet that’s very little. My gallbladder is functioning at 1%. Seems to me that would near 0 need to have it removed cause of gallstones also. But I have read that can cause diarrhea or constipation. I have talked to 2 Dr’s they both said different things. How much worse can I be compared to now? Never ever go on my own. I will see surgeon next week. Hope he has a lot on f knowledge and great advice for me. I do not know what to do maybe wait till it’s an emergency to have it removed if I would ever need to. But what about the 1% part one surgeon was not concerned about that.

  1. I'm so sorry you're dealing with such bad IBS-C and your gallbladder functioning at 1%. Based on different experiences people have shared in our community, gallbladder removal can make IBS better for some and worse for others. If you want, you could read through the over 100 comments under this article: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/clinical/gallbladder-removal-ibs. In addition, some of our Health Leaders have also shared their experiences after gallbladder removal, such as here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/hypothyroidism, and here: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/gallbladder-removal. I hope this helps and having this information will help you make a decision together with your doctors.
