Get to know my IBS

Hello.

Im a 28 y old male leading a relatively healthy life.
Around 1,5y ago i was having a really bad life style over eating sweets and chips including drinking. This lead to the situation where i wasn't able to eat anything which could irritate my stomach the slightest. Around 1y after eating clean and as healthy as possible (lots of greens, no coffee, no sweets,no alcohol, no junk food, FODMAP food) i got back to a level where i was able to consume sweets and small amount of alcohol. Recently i realized since i started to consume these things again that my stomach going back to the irritable state lot easier.

I would like to know how others deal with their IBS.
What symptoms you guys have ?

Will this IBS ever go away or do i always have to eat clean?

  1. Thank you so much for sharing with us! For me, personally, my IBS is triggered by food and anxiety.

My go-to Is Imodium. It's been such a life-saver and stops me from having to go to the bathroom all together. It'll close me up for a whole day, allowing me to eat nearly whatever I want with little to no consequences. If it doesn't work? My gastroenterologist recommends that I can take up to 4 a day! I still try and give up most foods that I know aren't worth the risk, but in order to fit in with friends, or at work, or just to eat yummy snacks, I usually pop an Imodium or Lactaid to get me through it!

I know this is a VERY late response, but I hope you're feeling well. I hope you've found some peace in trying to balance your diet and lifestyle. It's so hard to choose, I know. But just know that you're not alone in this. That we're all here for you dude!

    1. I’ve had IBS-D for so many years that I can’t count, what I know is caffeine really bothers me and I had to finally just stop drinking coffee and drinks that contain caffeine, same thing with milk (I now drink oatmilk) lactaid free ice cream really isn’t according to my stomach. I keep Imodium and usually take 3-4 a day depending on how bad diarrhea is I’m going to the GI (again )Thursday but I don’t expect too much,I’ve been seeing him for over 20 years and nothing that he’s prescribed really helped. I had colonoscopy’s as suggested and other than a few polyps that was burned off nothing out of the ordinary. I’ve been in flare up mode for a month!!!!! The constant bm’s leaves me famished so it starts all over again,I’ve tried everything known to man and nothing really works for long. What a miserable disorder 😢

      1. I'm so sorry you've been flaring for so long, that's terrible. 🙁 Hopefully, your GI doctor is helpful this time. Please keep us updated after your appointment!
Caffeine and dairy are common triggers unfortunately. Like you, it's not only the lactose for me either, as even lactose-free milk doesn't work that well for me. I am able to eat some forms of dairy though, like butter and hard cheese.
Have you tried eating gluten-free? This helped me a lot, but of course we're all different.
