Does anyone else feel ill after a bowel movement?

I have IBS and diverticulosis. My IBS has improved to going to the bathroom only once or twice since a suggestion from my gastroenterologist to eat a probiotic yogurt every day. However, after a bowel movement, I get a stomach ache ( not nausea), sometimes heartburn, muscle aches, fatigue, and just feeling so ill. Today I had to lay down for over an hour, and I thought it was the end of me. ( I am 75). My doctor just says to take an antacid. Is this part of IBS or something else? It is not as bad every day, but today I was crying.

  1. Yes! Some flare ups cause me to go into panic mode. Sweating, fatigue, weakness, trembling sometimes, gurgling, pains, blood pressure spikes. It's not "The End" but sure feels like it.

    How's your daily water intake?
Do you feel like its something you're eating thats causing it?

I was once told the gut is like a computer for our body. When it acts up, the whole system acts weird.

    1. Thank you! I thought something was seriously wrong with me. I will try to drink more water. I also am lactose intolerant so I try to be careful about what I eat 9( and take lactaid tablets), but some days, I don't know what to eat! some days I eat the same things, and some days, I am OK, but the next time, bad!

      1. Diet can be so tricky. Try starting to meal plan. It helps me a ton and it keeps me from eating things that I shouldn't. -Elizabeth (team member)

    2. I can relate to how you are feeling. For me, I controlled the heartburn by taking Magnesium daily before bed. Probiotic yogurt is a great idea. Papaya enzymes are better than antacids. And just diet in general is extremely helpful for controlling symptoms. How does your overall diet look these days? -Elizabeth (team member)

      1. thank you for the suggestion of magnesium which my primary care physician also recommended for my occasional leg cramps. My gastroenterologist said I could anything, but I wonder if I am allergic to some foods.
