Diarrhea rescue options

Neither GP nor GI has offered anything to stop or manage exploding diarrhea beyond USELESS Rabaprazole and Dexilant. So far, Immodium OTC gel caps are my survival essentials. First 2, then one then stop and wait or risk equally painful IBS-C. Learned this the hard way. Are there any reliable options long and short term?

  1. Thanks for reaching out. Sorry for the delayed reply. Have you spoken with your doctor about other treatment options? I'd encourage you to be persistent in asking them if you are still struggling. In addition to speaking with your doctor, this article gives a good overview of treatment options with further links to additional articles. I hope that's helpful: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/medications. Please reach out anytime. Best, Kelly, Irritablebowelsyndrome.net Team member

    1. In Canada, one must plead a case to gp for specialist GI. If one succeeds, GI obtains blood and stool tests. If results fail to reveal infection they recognize, endo- and colonoscopy. If these also yield no discernible cause GI refers patient back to gp, who still has no idea. May try new gp but not hopeful. They follow very ltd protocols Chronic, life-altering diarrhea in an o/w healthy person is just not anything they even try to solve. They treat disease they are taught to recognize with a few simple tests. They don't treat symptoms even something as urgent as chronic diarrhea. I'm still shocked and horrified at how bad our medical care has become.

      1. Thanks. No one I'd trust. Very expensive to experiment. Looking for something more reliable.

      2. I understand. I hope you are doing okay today. Hugs, Elizabeth (team member)

    2. Is there a complete list of antidiarrheals? I've only been offered Rabprazole and Dexilant - both useless. Immodium is effective but interested in alternative/s that might work long-term.

      1. I have had great results with a CBD vaporizer. just a small dose when I feel the crazy diarrhea coming on and it instantly calms the symptoms for about 15 minutes. enough time to get to a good toilet.

daily Oral CBD helped me too.

        1. Thank you for sharing what works for you! I'm glad that CBD seems to be effective for you. Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)
