Coping

Have been on a FODMAP diet and taking probiotics along with Metamucil for IBS and nothing seems to be helping. Talked with doctor who wants me to continue with all mentioned. I’m at the point where I am afraid to eat and afraid to leave the house for fear of needing a bathroom. Does this ever get better? ☹️

  1. Hi , I'm sorry that you're struggling so much and nothing seems to be working. That's so hard, I've been there... how is your diet looking at the moment? I've found that I was so afraid of eating at one point that I wasn't eating anything nourishing and that made my symptoms worse... this article talks about reacting to everything you eat: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/why-do-i-react-to-everything-i-eat. Also, it might be worth cutting out gluten and dairy to see if that helps. Maybe you could also get a second opinion or even see a naturopath or dietitian? Please don't stop advocating for yourself, it will get better! Here is an article to give you hope: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/hope. Wishing you all the best, Karina (team member)

    1. Thanks Karina for your thoughts. I have given up wheat and dairy products also. I have been on the phone with my gastroenterologist and primary doctors to see if Lomotil should be tried. Waiting on their advice.

      1. I hope they can point you in the right direction! I agree with Karina-if you're able to get access to a dietician that could be very helpful. I really hope you start to feel better soon. IBS can be so difficult to deal with, but know that we are here to support you! Best wishes, Michaela (team member)

    2. Dietician recommended FODMAP diet which I have been on for 6-months and counting. Can’t say that it has helped much. I just feel like curling up into a ball and staying in bed ☹️

      1. That's so hard. 🙁 The Low FODMAP diet helps many of us, but it's not for everyone: https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/living/when-fodmaps-doesnt-help. I also find that I can tolerate some High FODMAP foods just fine, but not all Low FODMAP options work for me. I hope you'll be able to figure something out with your doctors. Sending hugs, Karina (team member)

    3. Karina thank you for the encouragement.
