Constant gas pains and bloating?

I'm more on the C side than the D side, but I am able to go every day. Bristol 1-3 if i don't mind stool softener and fiber, but what is most painful is the constant gas and bloating. I get sharper pains in my flanks that come and go, which make me believe its gas. I have constant small bloating in lower abdomen that can flare and become more painful, sometimes its also more bloated like a ballon animal tied across my lower abdomen. I also get less painful but more general bloating that tends to move around. Generally stuff happens more on the left side though.
I've had a few happy evening where I've been able to pass enough gas for symptoms to longer be bothersome, but I can't seem to do it on command. gas-x doesn't really help. Yoga poses only help the odd time. its usually when I go to bed with pain and lay there eventually farting with my legs bent I can remember it worked. Its like I can't relax my body enough to let gas out. I have the usual suspects anxiety, stress and so on.

Please help! Its been ongoing for 9 months, with ups and downs but its never entirely gone away. All test are normal (still waiting for colonoscopy, but had normal upper endoscopy). I can also get "nervous stomach" when in pain, and then poop more frequently, but same consistency. I had two episodes before but this is the longest. First Dr i saw at my clinic was "its IBS" after checking my file and abdomen. My family doctor is of the same opinion. I've got health anxiety as a bonus 😀

Anyone have the same symptoms?

  1. I can imagine how frustrating and uncomfortable that must be. I don't have IBS but I do have an autoimmune condition that results in excessive gas sometimes and it certainly is not pleasant. Others with IBS do experience the same thing, though, and we do have some community information about it if you'd like to check it out. https://irritablebowelsyndrome.net/symptoms/gas-flatulence-common-sign-symptom-of-ibs Hopefully it helps t least a little with some of the excessive gas, and you can check out our forums too for others who have posted about gas and how they are dealing with it. Above all else just know you are not alone! Keep on keepin' on, DPM
