Have had IBS for 20 years and today woke up with sharp, stabbing pain in right side of stomach. Pain comes and goes. Also bloated with general abdominal pain. Ate lots of whole grains yesterday - not sure if that contributed.

,
I have had the same sharp, stabbing pain wake me up in the middle of the night after I go to bed bloated. It turned out to be pressure on pre-existing gallstones. Not suggesting it's the same for you. Please speak with your doctor with this, if you haven't already. Please keep us in the loop and let us know how you are making out. We are here for support. -Todd, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team

Thank you. Pain has subsided. Hoping it was just IBS.

, I often have sharp gas pains similar to what you're describing. As Todd said, you should speak with your doctor if you haven't already, especially if this is a new symptom for you. Glad you are feeling better! -Amy, IrritableBowelSyndrome.net Team

Hi ,
Your symptoms are definitely in line of those who have IBS. Are you working with a gastroenterologist to help ease these symptoms?
I am so sorry you are going through this. Have you tried changing your diet? I know when I eliminated grains and dairy the bloating totally went away for me. It's hard, but it's worth it.
